Brand Battle: 2027 Kia Telluride VS 2026 Chevrolet Traverse

Shopping for a three-row SUV? Chances are, you have come across the Chevrolet Traverse and the Kia Telluride. Both of these vehicles are great choices for families looking for ample cargo space and modern technology. So how do you decide between the two?
This common customer question is exactly why we are introducing a new series called Brand Battle! The goal isn’t to declare one vehicle the winner. Instead, we’re putting them side by side and comparing the features that matter most to shoppers so you can determine which vehicle is the better fit for your lifestyle.
To kick off this new segment, we are going to be comparing the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse LT and the 2027 Kia Telluride EX.
In this blog post, we will go over:
- Exterior Design
- Cargo Space
- Interior Styling
- Safety Features
- Power and Towing
Exterior Design
Starting up front, these two SUVs have their own distinct personalities. The 2026 Chevrolet Traverse boasts a rugged and athletic appearance. Chevrolet has clearly drawn inspiration from its truck lineup, giving the Traverse a bold front end and a more adventure-ready stance. It’s the type of SUV that looks equally at home in a school pickup line, at a sports tournament, or parked at a cabin up north.
The 2027 Kia Telluride has a slightly more upscale feel. Kia has embraced a boxier, upright, and futuristic silhouette. This iconic styling has made the Telluride such a popular SUV over the past several years. For 2027, the Telluride has a more chiseled exterior, vertical headlights, and a confident front end that give it a more premium presence.
Cargo Space
Now let’s talk about something that matters to just about every SUV shopper: space.
The Traverse is absolutely huge inside, and that’s especially noticeable in the cargo area. Behind the third row, the Traverse offers about 23 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold the third row down, and that jumps to 57 cubic feet, and with both rear rows folded flat, you’ve got up to 98 cubic feet of cargo room to work with.
That is a big deal if you are regularly hauling sports gear, luggage, strollers, groceries, coolers, backpacks, or all the random things that somehow end up in a family SUV by the end of the week.
The Telluride is also very spacious, offering 22 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 49 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 89 cubic feet with both rear rows folded.
So when the third row is up, these two are actually very close. The Traverse has a little more space behind the third row, but not by much.
Interior Styling
The moment you sit in the Telluride, the cabin has a premium feel. The dashboard is modern and uncluttered, and the 12.3 in panoramic display setup gives the interior a very high-end look. The Telluride also offers heated front seats and steering wheel, a power driver’s seat, and plenty of thoughtful touches that make it feel more luxurious. And in the second row, the Telluride gives you a really nice amount of space. It has 43 inches of second-row legroom, so if you regularly have adults, teens, or older kids riding back here, that is something shoppers will definitely notice.
The 2026 Traverse has a completely different personality. Chevrolet redesigned this SUV with a more rugged, functional approach, and you can see it throughout the cabin. The centerpiece is the massive 17.7-inch touchscreen display paired with an 11-inch driver information center. It’s modern, easy to use, and immediately grabs your attention when you step inside.
In the second row of the Traverse, there are 41.46 inches of legroom. Depending on how it is equipped, the second row can have Chevy’s Smart Slide, which makes third-row access easier!
When it comes to seating, both vehicles are comfortable enough for long road trips, daily commutes, and everything in between. The Telluride leans a little more upscale and refined, while the Traverse focuses on maximizing space and functionality.
Safety Features
The Telluride brings a strong driver-assistance package. With features like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist 2, Safe Exit Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Parking Distance Warning Forward and Reverse, and Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control with Curve, you will always feel safe driving, parking, and exiting the vehicle.
The Traverse also comes with a long list of standard safety and driver assistance features. Chevy says the Traverse has more than 20 standard safety and driver-assistance features, including Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking, and the Safety Alert Seat.
Power and Towing
Under the hood, both SUVs use turbocharged four-cylinder engines, but their numbers are different.
The Traverse uses a 2.5-liter turbo engine with 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Chevy also lists the Traverse at up to 5,000 pounds of towing when properly equipped.
The Telluride uses a 2.5-liter turbo engine with 274 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, also paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. When equipped with a towing package like this model, the Telluride can also tow up to 5,000 pounds.
