Scenic White Ford Mustang Mach-E

The 2020 arrival of the Ford Mustang Mach-E turned heads with its sleek design and lack of engine. Its name comes from the Mach 1 package of the first-generation Ford Mustang and many elements take inspiration from the classic Mustang, including the sense of freedom, performance, and maybe even a little sense of defiance you get when driving one. These ideals are woven into the Mach-E and reimagined for an electric drive. It offers lots of get-up-and-go along with luxurious exterior and interior. We will be going over the inside and outside, technology, charging information, performance, and trim levels. Let’s take a look at this all-electric SUV.

Exterior

Frunk

The Mach-E features a curvy and innovative design with a rounded, hatch-style truck. There is a great amount of storage space in the back with more in the front! The front trunk, or “frunk,” offers 4.7 more cubic feet of cargo room due to the lack of engine. This area is water resistant and even has a drain, which means you can fill it with ice to keep your drinks cool during the tailgate.

E-Latch Doors

When looking at the Mach-E, you will notice that there are no door handles. So, how do you get in? There is a button above the door that lights up when you walk up to it, provided you have the key fob or are using Phone As a Key (1).  All you do is press the button and the door will slightly open for you. Then, grab the convenient latch handle to assist in fully opening the door. The same process goes for the back doors. The only difference is that the back doors do not have a protruding grab handle like the front doors, but rather a grab pad on the inside of the doors. A great feature of these doors is that you cannot close the door until it has been fully opened. This means no pinched fingers and no kids accidentally closing the door on their hand!

Once you walk away from the vehicle, the Mach-E will automatically lock for you. There are also LED headlights and tri-bar lighting for an interesting and dynamic look to the lights on your vehicle. Now that we’ve covered exterior, let’s move onto interior.

Interior

The Mach-E has a 5-person capacity, with about 43 inches of front legroom and 38 inches of back legroom. When the back seats are folded down, you can increase your cargo space from 39.7 cubic feet to almost 60 cubic feet!

There is a fixed, all glass panoramic roof that provides plenty of natural light for both the front and back passengers. It even has a coating the helps the cabin stay warmer during winter and cooler during summer.

The seats are made from a material called ActiveX. It looks and feels like leather, but it is actually a synthetic material made from plastic. This is another way that the Mach-E works towards a greener future. You even have power front seats with lumbar support and recline to ensure you are comfortable during your drive.

Technology

This SUV comes with a 10 inch all digital driver display panel and a 15.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is equipped with Apple Car Play, Android Auto, climate controls, charging information, and more. Along with these, the Mach-E comes standard with some exciting features.

BlueCruise

Ford BlueCruise is a hands-free highway driving feature. To activate, you simply press a button on the steering wheel, wait for the driver display panel to say “Hands Free,” and you are okay to take your hands off the wheel. I know this might seem scary and of course, you should always stay attentive when behind the wheel. However, Consumer Reports has named Ford’s BlueCruise as the Top-Rated Active Driving Assistance System (2). This system works on freeways or interstates without intersections or traffic signals, and you must be in a “Blue Zone” to enable it. Click here to see the map of Blue Zones and determine if your route is covered.

This system adopts adaptive cruise control so that you always stay a safe distance away from the car in front of you. Also, if you stop paying attention to the road, even for a couple seconds, your driver display panel will alert you. With Lane Change Assist, all you do is hit your turn signal and your vehicle will change lanes for you when it is safe. It will even adjust your vehicle within the lane if a car in a surrounding lane is getting a little too close to you.

FordPass Connect

With FordPass Connect, you can easily connect your phone and vehicle together. From the app, you can remote start and stop your vehicle, check your charge level, and even find charging near you. If you suddenly get a flat tire or have any other car trouble, you can navigate to Roadside Assistance from the app. In no time, someone will be out to help you. You can even make payments on your vehicle! When you purchase a new Ford and finance with Ford Motor Credit Company, you can easily access and manage your financing information. FordPass Connect also acts as a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (3). You can connect up to 10 devices and access the hotspot 50 feet away from your vehicle!

Performance

Driving Modes

This Mustang Mach-E has three driving modes to choose from. Depending on your mood for the day, you can pick between Whisper, Engage, and Unbridled. All you do is tap the mode on the touchscreen infotainment center and you are set! Let’s look into these three modes.

Whisper

This is the most tame way of driving a Mach-E. It includes lighter steering and a gentler response when pressing down on the accelerator. In addition, there are no extra sounds added in, creating a quiet, calm ride. You almost feel like you are gliding across the road in this mode.

Engage

The Engage driving mode is the most standard and most often used for daily driving. It still offers great performance and a smooth ride. Because the Mach-E runs on a battery, there are no engine sounds. In Engage mode, there are sounds from a gas-powered vehicle added in to create a different experience when behind the wheel.

Unbridled

The name is this driving mode corresponds to the wild, free Mustang that this vehicle is named after. It offers a thrilling driving experience, going 0-60 in 3.5 seconds (4). There are also graphics on screen to differentiate it from other driving modes. Like the Engage driving mode, sound is added into the cabin when driving in Unbridled mode. However, the sounds will be louder and more aggressive to enhance the driving experience ever further.

One Pedal Driving

With One Pedal Driving (5), you use the accelerator pedal for both braking and accelerating. When you want to accelerate, you do the same as you would in a standard vehicle. Braking is where the difference is. To slow down or brake, you let your foot off the accelerator. The speed at which you slow down will depend on how much pressure you let off the accelerator. If you let your foot off abruptly, it will slow down very quickly and will fully stop when your foot is not on the pedal. For a gentler and smoother stop, you need to slowly and consistently let your foot off the pedal.

I know this sounds intimidating. And trust me, I was nervous the first time I drove a Mach-E with one pedal driving. However, after a few minutes of driving and stopping at intersections, I felt like an expert! You get used to the amount of pressure you need to apply and let off when slowing down. When you are fully stopped, you do not have your foot on any pedals. This seems counterintuitive to everything you have experienced, but I promise it will be second nature in no time. If you are not a fan of this and prefer the standard brake and accelerator, you can always go into your settings and turn it off.

EV Information

With any electric vehicle, there are a ton of questions surrounding range, charging options and accessibility, tax credits, and so on. Ford has created many resources to make it easier for consumers and ease their concerns. We’ll walk through some of those resources today.

BlueOval Charge Network

This is the largest public charging network in North America. All Ford EV owners have free, lifetime access to this network to see and navigate to thousands of public charging locations throughout the nation. There are 106,000 BlueOval Charge Network chargers and 10,200 DC fast chargers throughout the country. You can find chargers near you here

You can also find public charging through the FordPass app and inside your vehicle on the infotainment center. It will also tell you your charge level, range, and even let you pay for the charge. At a public charging station, you can charge from 20% to 80% in 45 minutes, so you will be on the road in no time after a coffee or meal break.

Ford Intelligent Range

Your vehicle will automatically give you the best estimate of your vehicle’s range based on conditions such as traffic, temperature, the road conditions themselves, your driving habits, and more. This will help you determine when you need to stop and charge. It even takes into consideration whether you are towing a trailer, boat, or other toy. This extra weight will affect your range and Ford Intelligent Range will reflect that. The range for Mach-E’s will vary based on trim level, which we will explore below.

Power My Trip

This is a feature on the FordPass mobile app. If you are going a further destination than normal or taking a road trip, you can input your destination in the app. Then, the system will automatically show you the charging stations on your route. When you are in need of a re-charge, you can easily tap the screen to navigate to the station.

Tax Credits and Savings

Many EV purchases qualify for federal, state, and local tax credits or incentives. The amount, however, may vary depending on income, price of the vehicle, or other factors. When you purchase a Mustang Mach-E, you can qualify for a $3,750 tax credit. Please refer to a tax professional for guidance and how to apply for this tax credit.

You may wonder how gas prices compare to charging costs. Ford has broken down the cost between gas and home charging here. Per “tank” for a Mach-E, the estimated savings are $19. This means savings of $43 per month when charging your Mach-E at home rather than filling up your tank with gas. These savings definitely add up year over year. In terms of public charging station cost, that will vary per station. Refer to the FordPass app or your vehicle’s charging station location for that information.
