With the new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 being released this fall, we’ve been eagerly counting down the days until its arrival. One of the features we’re most excited about is the new Durabed. While the Silverado’s previous bed was more than capable, this new bed ups the ante. Chevy designed it with durability in mind, crafting a sturdy and hardworking bed to match your work ethic and drive. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Durabed in the 2019 Silverado.

Bigger and Better

The last iteration of the Silverado 1500 had a respectful cargo box space of 53 cubic feet in the short box model, 62 in the standard box, and 75 in the long box. In other words, it was more than enough to fit your tools and work equipment.

The 2019 model kicks things up a notch by boosting these capacities on all levels. Chevy widened the width of the bed floor by 7 inches, creating much more space. Now, the short box model has 63 cubic feet of volume, the standard box has 72, and the long box has 89. Hands down, the Silverado wins best-in-class cargo box volume. In fact, the Silverado’s short box volume is 20 percent bigger than other comparable trucks. What will you do with all that extra space?

Secure Your Items

One problem with toting around more stuff is making sure it’s secure. Chevy is aware of this and has done its part to keep your items safe by increasing the number of fixed tie-down points to 12. There’s also an additional nine moveable tie downs, giving you the flexibility to secure larger or strangely sized items that don’t fit snuggly in the bed. These tie downs are rated up to 500 pounds, meaning they won’t rip out or break within that limit.

Modern Features

You might not consider a work truck like the Silverado a pioneer in vehicle technology, but it definitely exceeds expectations with several of the upgrades in the Durabed. For example, the bed comes with an exclusive power tailgate, making it extremely easy to load and unload your items.

Unloading your gear in the dark? You’ll never fumble around blindly again thanks to the integrated, in-bed LED lighting. It illuminates everything in the bed for crystal-clear vision even on the blackest of nights.

Finally, a 110/120-volt power outlet lets you plug in whatever you need. Turn on a speaker for some tunes while you’re working, hook up a mini refrigerator for cool drinks while tailgating, or even just charge up your phone so your battery doesn’t die.

Easier Access

Sometimes, climbing into the bed can be tricky, especially if you’re wearing heavy work boots and stiff clothing. The Durabed solves this problem by offering a CornerStep bumper with larger footwells specifically designed for hopping in and out while wearing your clunky work boots.

Clearly, the new Durabed is a selling point for the 2019 Silverado 1500. To learn more about what this truck has to offer, stop by Jeff Belzer’s to take a test drive.
